MediaSite Names Eastman Kodak Exec as VP of Software Engineering
- Randy Olson Brings 27 Years' Product Development and IT
Experience to New Endeavor -
Pittsburgh, Pa., Jan. 25, 2001 - MediaSite, Inc., the global
pioneer in the development of software and applications for converting
video into an interactive medium, today announced the appointment
of veteran Eastman Kodak Company executive Steven Randall Olson
as Vice President of Software Engineering.
Olson, who joined MediaSite this week, brings 27 years of product
development and information technology experience to the job, including
work on Kodak's first photocopier. Most recently, he led the development
of Kodak's online photographic services for commercial and consumer
applications, including Kodak Picture Exchange, Kodak Network
Printing and Kodak Picture Network. Previously, Olson
served in a number of other product development and information
systems management positions at both Kodak and Kodak spin-off, Eastman
Chemical Company.
In his new role, Olson will have ultimate responsibility for the
development of MediaSite tools and applications, including working
closely with R&D efforts at Carnegie Mellon University, where the
company's core technology was developed and related research is
ongoing. In addition, Olson will oversee the expansion of MediaSite's
technical staff, which currently has openings for software engineers
and others.
"We're very fortunate to have someone of Randy's experience in
this role," said Vinay Mehra, MediaSite's CEO. "With his knowledge
of the industry and the software development process, he'll be instrumental
in helping us bring our products to the next generation. Randy will
truly serve as my right-hand man in helping me execute MediaSite's
products."
"There are some great things to be done at MediaSite," said Olson.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to work on an emerging technology
that MIT is calling 'one of the ten technologies that will change
the world.' I worked on similar products at Kodak for still images,
so I see this job very much as an extension of what I was doing
into the areas of video and audio. I think my past experience will
allow me to make some major contributions to the execution of MediaSite's
business strategy."
Olson, a native of Indiana, earned his BS in electrical engineering
from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, where
he graduated magna cum laude. After working several years as an
engineer in Kodak's Apparatus Division, he went on to earn an MBA
from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration
at the University of Rochester.
