Internet Broadcasting Systems Selects MediaSite To Provide Video News Solution For Its Television News Web Channels Users Can Customize News Broadcasts to Their Personal Interests

PITTSBURGH (December 7, 1999) – Internet Broadcasting Systems (IBS), the award-wining leader in online local news services, has selected MediaSite, Inc.’s software products and professional services to enable interactive video on all of its current and future television news web sites. IBS intends to add searchable streaming video archives to each of its 37 television web sites as they are rolled out in the year 2000. With MediaSite’s Publisher Suite 4.0 IBS can automatically index, digitize, encode and post news segments so users can easily navigate within a very large archive of video content.

IBS will extend the brand equity of each television station and significantly increase the value of its online broadcasts by allowing viewers to personalize their programming selection.

"Online viewers have higher expectations than traditional audiences; they want instant and interactive access to news and features that really matter to their unique interests," said Reid Johnson, President of Internet Broadcasting Systems. "MediaSite’s technology allows IBS to significantly enhance service to current users and positions us and our station partners for the coming of broadband."

The automation capabilities of MediaSite’s products are key for IBS. IBS will initially post video content daily from five major television markets including Los Angeles, Cleveland and Minneapolis. By the end of the year 2000, IBS will be operating web sites in at least 37 markets reaching 73% of the population of Canada and 36% of the population of the United States.

"The ability to take local television news coverage and automatically post it to the Web is a logical next step in IBS’s offering, and a huge competitive advantage for them and their station partners," according to Howard Affinito, Vice President and General Manager of MediaSite. "Using MediaSite’s technology, IBS can change the way Internet users think about video content on the Web. Rather than viewing news passively they can proactively mine it for information, as they can already do with text and audio content on the Web. With video on the verge of exploding on the Web, IBS wanted to have the best, most unique video solution available in order to maintain its strong leadership in local news over the Web. We intend to make sure IBS remains on top. "

About IBS
IBS was formed in 1997 to develop and operate locally focused web sites using branded content provided by local television stations. It currently has an agreement with CanWest, a leading Canadian broadcaster, to build and operate Canadian sites in cities such as Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. IBS’ revenues have grown 141% for each of the past two years and, last month, its five current local web sites served about 15 million page views, with page views defined as the number of times a particular page has been seen by visitors to the sites. For example, IBS' Channel4000.com, serving Minneapolis, is that market's most popular local website, according to industry sources. Recently Hearst-Argyle Television Stations invested over $20 million in IBS and turned over operation of the web sites for all 26 of its owned and operated television stations.
