MediaSite  Introduces MediaSite Logger and Finder 3.0
Advanced Video Cataloging and Web-Based Search Software

Orlando, FL—SIGGRAPH '98—July 21, 1998—MediaSite , Inc., the leading developer and supplier of integrated solutions for constructing and accessing network-based, searchable digital video libraries, today announced the production shipment of MediaSite Logger (TM) 3.0, the only real-time cataloging system that incorporates speech recognition technology, and MediaSite Finder (TM) 3.0, for search and retrieval of video and audio libraries via the World Wide Web.

With MediaSite Logger 3.0 and Finder 3.0 software, users in industries including broadcast, production, advertising, and corporate and government training can manage video and audio content with incredible speed and accuracy, using sophisticated cataloging, annotation, browsing, search, retrieval, export and re-use features.

The latest versions of Logger and Finder incorporate: 1) spoken annotation with MediaSpeak Solo (TM) speech recognition technology; 2) Web-based search and retrieval with support for Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator for intranet or Internet connectivity; 3) real-time audio/visual capture and encoding; 4) user customizable input fields with optional controlled-language pull-down menus; 5) a new version of Logger’s EDLs (Edit Decision Lists), which can be used to create online rough cuts before exporting to a standard non-linear editing system; and 6) closed-captioning capture and decode.

"In developing the latest versions of Logger and Finder, MediaSite  listened closely to our customers in industries such as news and film production where video is a critical part of their business," said Mark Juliano, president and CEO of MediaSite . "While other cataloging systems can only promise the range of advanced features that MediaSite  offers today, we continue to lead the pack, greatly distancing ourselves by delivering an even more advanced solution for the management of video and audio."

About MediaSite Logger
MediaSite Logger digitally captures and encodes incoming video in real-time and uses sophisticated content and time-based image and motion analysis to automatically identify key scene changes and build a storyboard. Catalogers can then add attributes to video segments including description, title, location, and other user customizable information via spoken annotation or typed input to quickly capture the maximum amount of information possible.

Logger 3.0 captures SMPTE time codes and closed-captioning. In addition, Logger’s easy-to-use interface includes on-screen VTR control through software, full motion display of incoming tapes or feeds, and HTML and text-based reporting. MediaSite Logger integrates with industry-standard databases including Oracle and Informix and exports information such as Tape ID and SMPTE time-codes to an Edit Decision List (EDL) file for use with leading non-linear editing systems such as Avid and NewStar.

"We built and delivered the initial version of Logger in direct response to the requests we received for a real-time cataloging, search and retrieval system," said Robert Mozenter, director of engineering, MediaSite . "Since that time, we have gone on to incorporate even more features in the latest generations of Logger and Finder."

MediaSpeak Solo Speech Recognition Technology for Faster, More In-Depth Annotation
Logger 3.0 is the only real-time system that accepts spoken annotations using MediaSpeak Solo speech recognition technology, enabling loggers to capture video content up to 3-5 times faster than with typed-only input. Spoken annotation also results in more detailed and comprehensive segment descriptions.

Search Online over the Internet or Intranets with Web-Based MediaSite Finder
After video has been digitized and cataloged with MediaSite Logger, users can search video using natural language or keyword queries with MediaSite Finder 3.0, MediaSite ’s sophisticated, easy to use PC or Web-based software for search and retrieval over the Internet or corporate intranets. Web-based Finder supports a range of online access speeds, from low-bandwidth (28.8 connections) with still image plus audio playback to high-speed in-house intranet connectivity with full-motion video playback.

Finder 3.0 employs a number of techniques so that users can find the exact content needed as quickly as possible. Once they retrieve the desired video, they can then quickly browse or play segments in a storyboard format or as low-resolution video.

Seamless Integration for End-to-End Digital Video Library Management and Re-Use
Logger is a key component of the MediaSite Digital Video Library System (TM), the only end-to-end suite of software and services for constructing and managing video. MediaSite Logger for real-time applications, MediaSite Builder (TM) for full-content indexing, and MediaSite Finder for sophisticated search and retrieval enable organizations to finally unlock the value of their video content by converting their video and audio assets to an easy-to-use digital medium.

System Requirements, Pricing and Availability
MediaSite Logger software is available now in a stand-alone or networked version, and is priced from $24,900. Logger operates in Windows 95 and NT platforms in client/server environments and offers a Web interface for Internet and intranet connectivity.
