It was a relief for Atlanta to finally be in a place with more than five
people, she could finally get lost in the crowd and get some quiet time to
herself. She made her way to her temporary quarters and sprawled out on the
bed in an attempt to get some sleep. With all that had gone one recently,
sleep was difficult to find so she made her way to the replicator.
'Iced coffee' she said and immediately one was produced. She took it and sat
at the computer, debating whether or not to contact her family. She hadn't
spoken to them since before she took the position on the Galileo. Family
reunions were never a good thing, in fact she scrupulously avoided all
contact with them. Instead, she decided to call her long term friend David
Holloway, someone who she trusted implicitly and who she had missed very
much since she had been away. Atlanta moved towards the viewscreen and
dialed.
David answered the phone hurriedly and was shocked to see Atlanta on the
other end.
'Atlanta..... Hi' he said, confused.
'It's fine, David, I'm not dead. Well not yet anyway.'
'No-one knew where you were. The Galileo apparently, just disappeared.' he
began to smile in relief. 'Where did you go to?'
Atlanta laughed, he wouldn't believe her if she told him. 'We were caught in
a temporal anomoly and managed to travel to a different dimension.'
David shuffled about infront of the viewscreen and it was then that Atlanta
realised that he had just stepped out of the shower and was only wearing a
towel.
'So how did you get back? Are you alright?' he asked.
'Well..............' Atlanta paused for thought ' we made like a Kzin and
ran....' she answered
'But you weren't hurt?' he said, concern in his voice.
'I'm fine, doctor' she replied.
'I'm glad........' David had so many things to say, but didn't quite know
how to phrase them.
Atlanta sensed his unease. 'I'll let you go' she said. 'You'd better go and
get dressed. And besides, I don't want to make you late for work.'
'No,' he said hurriedly. 'I'm coming to see you.......'
Atlanta interupted, 'I don't know how long Im going to be here for...... The
ship repairs could be finished soon.' She knew whe was lying, but realised
that seeing him again would just cause upset. 'I'll come and see you soon.'
With that she ended the call, unsure as to whether David would turn up or
not. He usually respected her decisions, but was stubborn when fighting for
the things he really loved. Atlanta hoped that she wasn't included in that
category.
She got up for the chair and made her way out of her room. She waked along
the corridor heading toward the bar. She hadn't heard from the rest of the
crew since she reaced the station. Dach, she presumed would be recuperating
and Ruckwood was probably doing the same. Atlanta recognised the usual noice
emminating from the bar and entered it. It was full of people relaxing,
gaming, discussing and just enjoying themselves. She sat down at the bar and
ordered a 'Bacardi and Coke', turning round to watch the crowd. The
bartender gave her the dink and she moved towards a table and sat down.
She heard a voice behind her and turned to see the Commander standing
there. 'Good evening Ensign' he said.
'Evening, Commander' she replied. 'Please....... sit down.'
Davis sat down at the table with his drink. He looked tired, but happy to be
back with the rest of the Federation.
'So, what happens now?' Atlanta asked. 'Do you go back to the Intrepid?'
Davis shook his head. 'I honestly don't know. However I do have a meeting
with the CO of the Vindicator tommorrow. We'll see then about the satus of
Starfleet.'
