<cerywyn@yahoo.com> writes to USS Galileo <galileo@ucip.org>:
Ktryna did not like to be threatened. The comm link had gone silent
with Dach’s last comment. Ktryna was tempted to ignore the comment.
She didn’t care about home …..she didn’t really have one. She simply
was. The only thing she’d ever known was the Intrepid and even that
was not home. She walked back over to the security console, and checked
the programming once more. She had known at the outset that the
default to the self destruct had been a ruse. She didn’t care what
Dach thought of her. Anyone that would go to so much trouble to set up
such an elaborate hoax clearly lacked faith and trust and was clearly
someone Ktryna would be wary of. Ktryna was in no mood to be nice. The
paranoia and distrust was palpable and she was sick of it. It was too
reminiscent of the feelings some had had for her onboard the
Intrepid...as a result of her origins. So it was, that barely
containing the urge to snap, she hissed back into her com link.
++taps++ Ktryna to Ens. Dach. Ens. I’ll remove the Alpha 2
protocol….but know this…you so much as make a wrong move…other than the
work needed to reconfigure the essential systems….I’ll shut the systems
down in the middle. And the secured systems are still locked out.
I’ll give you only what you need to work with. That’s it. It’s the
only compromise I’ll make. Ktryna out.
She left no room for argument or dissent.
Ktryna closed the link, she turned to the console she was working at
and tapped. She restored access to only the necessary components in
Stellar Cartography and the systems that would need to be
reconfigured. Everything else was still shut off and locked out from
security. She turned her attention back to what she’d been doing
before Dach had interrupted her. She finished cleaning the debris from
the security area, as well as restored power to one of the secondary
systems in security. It wasn’t much but it was enough to power the
force field for one of the security cells if need be. She replaced the
access panels that lay scattered about due to her work, then proceeded
to the security chiefs office. She righted the desk and began to sort
thru the padds that had gone awry in the crash. Most of the padds
contained nothing more unsual than a brawl in 10F….however the last one
caught her attention. Medical had reported that certain medicines,
Cordrazine, in particular, had been dissappearing at an unusual rate.
The Sec Chief had begun to investigate and his primary candidate had
been Cadet Dach….a newly arrived officer to the Galileo. Ktryna
finished reading the PADD. The last entry made had been the day of the
crash apparently. The SEC chief had been about to report his findings
to the former CO. Ktryna thought it ironic that such information had
never been disclosed. She gathered up the now useless data and threw
it away…all save the PADD containing the information on Dach. That one
she locked in the desk drawer. She didn’t know if Cmdr Davis suspected
or not. She would give him the PADD with the information on it. It
would be his call. For now, the focus was on getting home…before those
suns fully aligned or the natives breached the hull. The latter was
likely to happen before the first.
Well, the office was now workable, as was at least one security cell.
All the secured systems were locked out. There was nothing more she
could do here for the moment. She recalled that Lt.Morraine had wished
to speak with her. Ktryna wondered about what. She pushed the thought
aside, and decided to do a deck by deck patrol. She took the turbo
lift to the lower reaches of the ship. Stepping off she quickly began
the task of searching every area. The decks repeatedly proved to be
empty….she encountered Mr. Ruckwood working in the SCI lab…he seemed to
be busy pouring over data of some kind…she moved on, leaving him
undisturbed. As she made her way back to the upper decks, she reached
Stellar Cartography and sensed both Dach and Jade inside. Knowing they
were focused on their task with little time for mischief, Ktryna moved
on. She checked the weakened cargo bay doors. They would have to be
repaired if they were to make it safely home. They were showing signs
of stress…mainly from the pounding the natives were doing and partly
due to the crash itself. They had bowed in slightly and Ktryna
suspected they would collapse inward once the ship was back in the air
if the natives didn’t violate them first. Even now, she could sense
them outside the doors. They were definitely restless. Finally,
several hours later, all the decks checked and secured, Ktryna made her
way back to the Security office, deciding she’d put that conversation
with the counselor off long enough.
++taps++ Ktryna to Lt.Morraine. A few seconds pass.
++taps++ Triss here, What do you need Ktryna?
++taps++ I’m in the SEC office. You said you wanted to talk. Well, I’m
ready when you are. Besides, I’m keeping my eye on things from here and
I’m comfortable here.
++taps++ Ok Ktryna. I’ll be down there shortly.
Ktryna closed the comm link and walked over to the primary security
console and took a seat to monitor the readings and wait for Triss to
arrive.
