Duty Log Stardate 239905.10
I have now been following a group of natives for a period of four days. They
seem to be resting periodically, during which, I utilise the time to move
closer for a better look. I am unsure whether they are aware of my presence
as they themselves seem to be following something.
My tricorder readings show the group to consist of humanoids, they are
simply dressed and seem to have limited weapons capabilities. I believe that
they may form part of a cult as each night they peform a ritual, consisting
of the chanting of what seem to be prayers (the words undistinguishable due
to the distance betweeen us) and the sacrifice of a native beast, a canine.
They may not be indiginous to the planet as I feel that they have knowledge
of more advanced technology than is used here, but do not utilise it. I have
seen evidence of communication devices which suggests that they have bases
scattered across the region. I must be wary of the chance of discovery
within close proximity to these and of the 'natives' ' potentially hostile
intentions. It is my opinion that we must ask ourselves some key questions,
before attempting to make contact with them. How does
the alternate dimension operate? If these people are part of the human race
(as their physiology suggests) are their ethics the same? What differences
can we anticipate between the differen toutcomes of the universe? There
are few answers to these questions without approaching the beings, however I
must reccommend to myself that this only be done when all information needed
to ensure safety of the crew has been gathered. In a universe of infinite
possibilities, the probability of differences between two weakly linked
races is high and so any unresearched meeting could give rise to
disasterous consequences for both. The Prime Directive ensures that
other races must not be adversely affected by any of our actions, therefore,
I intend to keep it this way.
