On Tue, 4 May 1999 14:50:52 -0700 (PDT), Katrina Hinson

<cerywyn@yahoo.com>; writes to USS Galileo <galileo@ucip.org>;:

As the trio had moved across the open expanse to the horizon, the

darkness developed a distinct outline…mountains…or the remains of what

used to be a range…just ragged outcroppings now…jutting upward to the

sky with ragged broken fingers. As they neared Ktryna noticed what

appeared to be a cave. She loped ahead.

{{One has found a place one considers safe}} she thought. She pauses

long enough to retake her normal form. "Here. ::pointing to a medium

crevice in the side of a mountain:: We should be safe here for the

night."

Davis inspected the interior of the cave and found it adequate. Ktryna

nodded. It was deep enough as to not be crowded access to it was

limited due to the steepness of the slope. "Well done," Davis

said.

Ktryna nodded.

"Permission to hunt for food. I’ve no doubt that you and the counselor

are starving." Ktryna had noticed that there was a chronological need

for solids to eat…it seemed to her that schedule had been interupted

and the two of them if given adequate time to think about, should be

hungry…as well as tired. Triss and Davis looked at each other before

Triss replied. "I could do with something…."

Ktryna nodded. "It shouldn’t take me long…and I would enjoy the

exercise"

Davis nodded his permission as he and the counselor began to secure the

area and prepare for the night. Ktryna resumed a shape she was

comfortable with and which could fend well in the darkness. She lept

from the cave mouth, down to the plain below and moved silently into

the dark. She could sense the unease in the Commander and she growled

softly to herself…..That is all she had sensed from a lot of the crew

on the Intrepid…a veiled sense on unease anytime she was near. She

picked up her pace and began to trot along the plain. She thought that

feeling was fading…but apparently not. She knew better than to bite

one of the crew…Beldin had taught her to be quite careful when she

changed…he had sensed early on that Ktryna was more involved with the

shape she assumed, often taking on the charateristics more than would

be normal. When Ktryna had asked why this was so, Beldin had only

warned her to use care. She would have to be extremely careful with

the Commander and the Counselor lest they think she was a danger to

them when she was not. With the thought of Beldin….Ktryna had a sudden

longing ….she did not understand this feeling at all….and there was

Joans…what had happened to bring them here she was uncertain….she was

no scientist. But she felt the intense need to howl….and so she did… a

low mournful sound that shattered the quiet of the night. She

resumed her hunt….a probing thought to make sure she would not stumble

into something as well as sniffing the air…she soon picked up a trail

and followed.

The animal was near. She crouched low to the ground and crawled on her

belly and waited. She peered through the grass. The animal looked

like a rabbit….but the fur was longer and the ears shorter. It stood

more on it’s hind legs than was usual for a rabbit. It looked to be

cleaning it’s forepaws. Ktryna waited till the animal was engrossed in

it’s cleaning ritual before she pounced. She made quick work of the

kill…it was the hunt she enjoyed anyway. She resumed her normal form

removed her tricorder from a fold that looked like a pocket but was

much more secure…..and examined the animal. It picked up nothing that

would prove harmful if eaten and since they didn’t know where they were

it was better to play it safe. She took back the form of the wolf once

that was done…and gingerly picked up the animal and headed back to

camp.

She sent a thought out back as she approached the camp. {{One has found

what one feels will make an adequate meal for….}} Triss sent a mental

acknowledgement once she realized the voice was Ktryna’s. Being

careful not to drag the animal in the dirt, Ktryna easily climbed the

sloping surface, loped over to where Triss had made the campfire and

deposited the animal neatly on a rock. With golden eyes and a lolling

tongue she looked in Davis’ direction. She then trotted to the mouth of

the cave and without looking back at Triss or Davis she sent {{One

needs to rest this form a bit…one has grown weary from the journey and

it has been some time. By the time one finishes one’s meal and is ready

to sleep…one will be rested.}} With that, Ktryna laid down, curling

her tail around her, resting her head on her front paws.

OOC:

I refuse to put my self in a bucket to sleep…besides we don’t have one

anyway…and this way Ktryna will not intrude into the conversation…but

will stand gaurd while u two rest. :)
